Hi Roman, Glad to hear you are enjoying reading workshops! Homogeneous groups are such a great thing because they allow the teacher to focus on specific skills a group of students need. Re-visiting a skill with the whole class could be a waste of time and boring for other students, so this is a great way to go! As we have learned, independent reading is highly valuable too, so having students that a teacher is not working with read or do stations on their own is also a productive use of time.
Roman, I agree that breaking them into small groups by ability is great to focus on the areas where they need the most help.
