Hi Kathleen - I also really liked how the teacher in the video used the teaching points and the refocusing and reflecting strategies. I feel like this really set a purpose for reading. I think it's really important to model and talk to students about why we read something. Having our students refocus and reflect on what they have just learned can be excellent ways to assess our students understanding.
I wasn't sure when you mentioned accuracy if you meant accuracy in the actual reading of the text or accuracy in comprehension? I also really liked the idea of the teacher giving students a time to reflect and share what they are learning. Time. It seems like none of us have enough of it- but like what you said, I think it's crucial for their learning development. I am volunteering in on a 4th grade class next week!
Sounds like a very good structure to make sure that what is said is understood and reflected on. Great training for later in life. This should create reflective learners and interesting citizens.
