Sarah D - Week 6 "Reading Workshop"

  1. Hola Sara! I LOVE THE PHOTO!!!!! You are my idol!!!!! (hehe)

I also liked to see the videos. Conferencing is a good way to work, but…I don’t think it is so rosy, for many reasons.
I feel that it gets mechanical when you have 24 kids to meet with, the rest of the sometimes have a very hard time waiting for their turn and keeping on track. It feels unnatural, forced, testy, not a very intimate way to relate to students.

To hear how you feel, and how you feel that you will like to do a running record, and to collect data, and the measuring part of assessment, made me think of how different teaching styles are as common as different learning styles there are!!!

I personally feel that doing the DRA’s (running record type reading comprehension test) and the PLC meetings (we had one on Monday and one yesterday) where teachers and learning specialist share our data are a pain in my neck, literally.
For me this standardized type of assessment are a very sad way to test kids (4 times a year) a waste of “relationship and community building”, and “authentic learning time”.

Can I hire you to do the DRA’s?
